Attention: If you have not been cleared within 3-5 business day of your request, please call our office.

Ventura College is now enforcing class pre- and corequisites. Information for prerequisite and corequisite requirements can be found below as can an explanation of how to challenge a pre- or corequisite. Please note: the information below applies only to Ventura College.

Prerequisites and Corequisites Requirements

A prerequisite is a course that the student is required to complete with a grade of “C’ or better before the student can enroll in the next more advanced course. A corequisite is a course which the student must take at the same time s/he is taking another course.

All prerequisites and co-requisites on course enrollment are strictly enforced at the time of the student’s registration.  All prerequisites and co-requisites are stated in the course descriptions in the college catalog and in the class schedule.

California Virtual Campus (CVC) Prerequisite Clearance

If you have already satisfied the prerequisite class at your home college for the course you are attempting to enroll into at Ventura College, you will need to follow Ventura Colleges policy for clearing prerequisites, as your coursework from your primary college has not been transferred to Ventura College.

Once you have reviewed our policy at Ventura College you will have to submit any supporting documentation for clearing a prerequisite through CVC Exchange NOT through Ventura Colleges prerequisite request email.

You will not speed up your prerequisite clearance by using Ventura Colleges prerequisite request email, rather you may delay the process by doing so.

How to Challenge a Prerequisite or Co-requisite

A prerequisite is a course that the student is required to complete with a grade of “C’ or better before the student can enroll in the next more advanced course. A corequisite is a course which the student must take at the same time s/he is taking another course.

If the student can demonstrate that s/he meets the equivalent of a course prerequisite based upon one of the reasons listed on the Petition for Challenging a Prerequisite or Co-requisite, the student has the right to challenge the prerequisite or co-requisite.
