Academic Counseling

After you have completed your Online Orientation, your next step is to meet with an Academic Counselor in a In-Person MAP (My Academic Plan) Workshop to discuss your classes for your first semester at VC. During your MAP Workshops, our counselors will review information on transfer, educational pathways, process for clearing prerequisites, how to sign up for your classes and more.

Students can meet with a counselor during a scheduled 45-minute appointment, call for same day drop-in counseling or email us if your question does not require an immediate response. Drop-in counseling is strictly over the phone and is only for quick 5-10 minute services like questions about adding or dropping a course, requests for academic overload or starts the process for an external transcript evaluation. For any other services like financial aid appeals, comprehensive education plans, new plan based on a new major and transfer counseling, please schedule an appointment.

Email response takes 2-3 business days, but may take longer during registration periods. Please be sure to include your name, VC student ID number (900#) and be as detailed as possible in how we can assist you.

If you have previously attended Ventura, Oxnard or Moorpark College and want to take classes again, please update your information by submitting a new admission application prior to meeting with a counselor. 

Returning students are strongly advised to schedule a 45-minute appointment with a counselor as drop-in services do not provide us with the opportunity to review your records or discuss in more detail any changes that have occurred since you last were enrolled.
