Academic Counseling

Complete the MAP (My Academic Plan) Workshop prior to meeting with a counselor. MAP Workshops are an opportunity for all new students at Ventura College to learn about various educational pathways available to them and learn how to select courses for their first semester based on their goal.

To complete the MAP workshop, please follow the steps below:

1. Have an admissions application for the semester you will start at VC
2. Have access to your MyVCCCD student portal
3. Submit official transcripts (high school, AP scores and/or other colleges/universities you attended) to Admissions and Records to assist with prerequisite clearances and/or to receive appropriate college credit
4. Complete the Online Orientation
5. Complete the My Academic Plan (MAP) workshop 

• Option 1: Complete the online, self-paced MAP Workshop. 
• Option 2: Attend an In-Person group MAP Workshop with an academic counselor

• After completing the online workshop, speak to an Academic Counselor to discuss course recommendations for your first semester by calling us at 805-289-6448 or review recommended courses for your first semester using our new Program Mapper.

Transfer students: After completing the MAP Workshop please call 805-289-6448 for drop-in counseling to develop a 1^st semester educational plan and request an external coursework evaluation

Students can meet with a counselor during a scheduled 45-minute appointment, call for same day drop-in counseling or email us if your question does not require an immediate response. Drop-in counseling is strictly over the phone and is only for quick 5-10 minute services like one semester education plans, requests for academic overload or an evaluation of external transcripts. For any other services like financial aid appeals, comprehensive education plans and transfer counseling, please schedule an appointment.

Email response takes 2-3 business days, but may take longer during registration periods. Please be sure to include your name, VC student ID number (900#) and be as detailed as possible in how we can assist you.

If you have previously attended Ventura, Oxnard or Moorpark College and want to take classes again, please update your information by submitting a new admission application prior to meeting with a counselor.
