The Ventura College Veterans Resource Center (VRC) is committed to establishing a supportive environment and welcoming campus culture for all Active Duty, Veteran and eligible Dependents of Veterans. The VRC was founded on the premise that the challenges faced by veterans may be addressed through a combination of services emphasizing academics, camaraderie and overall wellness. VRC staff are here to help provide that support and to guide military students through the process of achieving their educational goals.
The VRC offers personalized services to veterans, active duty military and eligible dependents in a welcoming environment:
- Application assistance for VC admission and course registration
- Academic counseling such as transcript evaluation, and developing education plans
- Access to V.A. & CalVet Educational Benefits
- Study area
- Computers, printers, and scanners
- Lounge space, restroom and kitchenette

Lisette Weatherby, VRC Office Assistant, is a U.S. Navy Seabee Veteran who served on active duty from 2004 to 2009. She obtained her Bachelors of Psychology from the University of Laverne in 2014 and has experience and passion for helping the veteran community. Lisette is the Office Assistant at Ventura College Veterans Resource Center (VRC) continuing to serve those who served.
Jermane G. Jackson (JJ), VRC Social Worker Intern. JJ graduated from Ventura High School in 1997 and attended Ventura College from 1997 to 2000 where he received his Associates of Arts degree. After V.C., JJ attended California State University, Long Beach where he received his Bachelors of Science in Criminal Justice degree. Upon graduation, JJ enlisted in the U.S. Army, where he served 12 and a half years. During his 12 and a half years of service, JJ deployed 4 times in defense of our country (Iraq 2005 and 2011, Africa 2013 and Kuwait 2015) and achieved the ranks of Sergeant ( 4 years Enlisted) and Captain (8 and a half years Commissioned). Currently JJ is in his final year at the University of Southern California where is in the Suzanne Dworak-Peck School of Social Work working towards his Master’s Degree in Military Social Work.
J.Jackman, VRC Student Worker - former Air Force aircraft mechanic (primarily F-16s) turned aspiring aerospace engineer. Literally experienced in and learning more about rocket science.
Kyle Phillips, VRC Student Worker and former 0621 Field Radio Operator in the U.S. Marine Corps. I'm currently finishing my general education at Ventura College, and I really enjoy working on and driving cars or spending time with my Wife.
Hello everyone I'm Shipley. I'm a full time student at VC and Student Worker at the VRC at Ventura College. I was in the Army for 11 years and my MOS was 68W Combat Medic. I'm getting an associates in Fire Technology and EMS Paramedic to hopefully become a fire medic. Stop by the VRC some time to say hi.
