Distance Education Student Orientations @ VC

Keep Learning:  Did your Class just go online?

We understand that all classes are now online due to the COVID-19 virus. As you are navigating our site for help, we recommend that you take the Self-Paced Online Student Orientation. You can use this orientation as a reference or complete the entire orientation to earn a certificate.  You can also call our VC DE Student Help line below during this time.  We have increased the number of staff serving you.

Types of Student Orientations

Welcome Students! There are two types of VC DE Student Orientations: the Self-paced online orientation or a live consultation with one of our student workers.  After successfully completing the orientation, you will receive a digital badge within the course. .Please contact your instructor for more information about whether completing the DE student orientation is required or not. We also offer the Quest for Success self reflection tool as a way to self assess your readiness for online courses.  All services are optional and designed to help you with your online study and online pathways.

Self-Paced Online Orientation: This self-paced online tutorial is ideal for the student who is somewhat familiar with online instruction or is an independent self directed learner.  Students can take this course from any computer that has access to the Internet, and it is available 24/7.  The Spring 2020 Session of the Orientation is now open.  We are no longer issuing Fall 2019 badges nor certificates.

Summer 2020 VC DE Student Orientation

The Live DE Student Orientations: Live technical orientations in Canvas are hosted by our student specialists.   Please contact our VC DE Student Help Line to arrange a time to meet in the LRC BEACH computer area.  The live student orientations are roughly 90 minutes in length.  If you do not complete everything at that time, you can finish the tutorial online from anywhere.

Currently we cannot offer live in person demonstrations; however, the DE Student Help Line can offer live ConferZoom sessions to help you with common Canvas and/or ConferZoom needs.

Is this your first online course? Are you wondering if you are ready to be an online student?  Do you need some advice on best practices as an online student?   The Quest for Success Online Workshop is for you.  Please take this while you are signing up for classes.
