Why is my username/password not working?
Account lockout has been enabled on the server. After the username and password has been entered incorrectly multiple times, the account will be locked. Accounts are unlocked automatically after five minutes.

What is the default page filename?
Use the filename "index.htm" or "index.html" for the default page.

How do I keep my site and/or sub-directories from appearing as a file listing?
Make or select a webpage to replace the directory file listing. Rename this webpage file to either "index.htm" or "index.html" (without quotes). Its the first file the server looks for in your site's directories to deliver to an end-user's browser.

Suggested Web Authoring Software

Here are some suggestions that are no-cost solutions:

Nvu - Nvu (pronounced N-view, for a "new view") is a complete Web Authoring System that combines web file management and easy-to-use WYSIWYG (What You See Is What You Get) web page editing. (Open Source, MPL/LGPL/GPL tri-license)

Adobe/Macromedia Dreamweaver and Microsoft Frontpage are available on workstations in some labs in the Math and Sciences Building. For those with a workstation on campus, Microsoft Frontpage is also available via your campus tech. Microsoft Word can also be used but recommended for small websites.

Suggested FTP Software

Here are some no-cost solutions:

FileZilla - (Instructions) Fast and reliable FTP client and server with lots of useful features and an intuitive interface. (GNU General Public License)

Mozilla Firefox w/ FireFTP - A free, cross-platform FTP client for Mozilla Firefox which provides easy and intuitive access to FTP servers.

SmartFTP - Full-featured FTP client with a snazzy interface. (free for non-commercial use)

Fetch - Recommended only for Mac users with pre-OS X 10.2 operating systems. Download Fetch 4 and sign-up for free educational license.
