California College Promise Grant (CCPG)

To qualify for the California College Promise Grant (CCPG), you must meet applicable residency or status requirements and qualify based on financial need, income, benefits received, or another eligible category.

Residency or Status

You must meet at least one of the following:

• Be a California resident, as determined by Admissions & Records
• Be eligible for an AB 540 or AB 1899 nonresident tuition exemption
• Hold a T or U visa
• Be determined to be a homeless youth by the Financial Aid Office

Financial Need, Income, or Benefits

You may qualify if:

• Your household income is within the CCPG income limits for your family size;
• You complete the FAFSA or California Dream Act Application (CADAA) and demonstrate sufficient financial need; or
• You or your parent(s), if you are a dependent student, receive qualifying benefits such as:
  • TANF/CalWORKs
  • SSI/SSP
  • General Assistance

Other Special Eligibility Categories

You may also qualify under certain special eligibility provisions, including:

• Medal of Honor recipients and qualifying dependents
• Qualifying dependents of victims of the September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks
• Students certified as eligible by the California Department of Veterans Affairs or California National Guard
• Qualifying dependents of law enforcement or fire suppression personnel killed in the line of duty
• Individuals who were wrongfully convicted and later exonerated, with required documentation
• Qualifying dependents, spouses, or partners of certain first responders, nurses, or physicians who died from COVID-19 during California's state of emergency

You may qualify for the California College Promise Grant (CCPG) based on your 2024 household income and family size.

These income ceilings apply to 2026–2027 CCPG Type B eligibility.

If your household income is above the amount listed for your family size, you may still qualify for the CCPG through another eligibility method. We encourage you to complete the 2026–2027 FAFSA or California Dream Act Application (CADAA) to determine whether you qualify for the CCPG and other financial aid.

About these income limits: Type B income ceilings are based on 150% of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services Poverty Guidelines, as provided under California Code of Regulations, Title 5, § 58620.

To be considered for the California College Promise Grant (CCPG):

1. First, complete the 2026–2027 FAFSA or California Dream Act Application (CADAA).

2. If you are not eligible to complete the FAFSA or CADAA, apply for the CCPG online through CCCApply.
3. As a final option, complete a 2026–2027 CCPG paper application:

CCPG eligibility is determined each academic year. We encourage you to apply as early as possible so you can also be considered for other federal, state, and institutional financial aid programs for which you may qualify.

Once you qualify for the California College Promise Grant (CCPG), you must continue to meet academic and progress standards to maintain eligibility.

Academic Standard – Maintain a 2.0 GPA or Higher

You must maintain a cumulative GPA of 2.0 or higher.

If your cumulative GPA is below 2.0 for two consecutive primary terms (fall and spring), you may lose your CCPG eligibility.

Progress Standard – Complete More Than 50% of Your Coursework

You must successfully complete more than 50% of your attempted coursework.

If you do not meet the cumulative course completion requirement for two consecutive primary terms (fall and spring), you may lose your CCPG eligibility.

Academic and Progress Standards Combined

Any combination of not meeting the academic and/or progress standards for two consecutive primary terms may result in the loss of your CCPG eligibility.

How Will I Know If I Am at Risk of Losing My CCPG?

You will be notified within 30 days after the end of the term if you are placed on academic and/or progress probation.

The notification will explain your status and that not meeting the required standards for a second consecutive primary term may result in the loss of CCPG eligibility at your next registration opportunity.

What If I Lose My CCPG Eligibility?

If you lose CCPG eligibility, there may be options available to help you regain eligibility.
