Recommended Technology for Online Learning

Distance learning requires a variety of technologies, including hardware (computers), software (internet browsers, computer applications, and programs), as well as stable and reliable internet service. Below are the recommendations for successfully completing online coursework at Ventura College. If you currently do not have access to the technology recommended below, you should explore options to acquire the necessary technology. Many legitimate online resources offer refurbished (used) technical assets for purchase. If you can run the basic required software on your device(s), you won’t need to purchase the newest versions of them.

Hardware and Software

  • Laptop or desktop with an up-to-date operating system that is compatible with the latest web browsers
  • While many of the activities in your courses can be read or completed on mobile devices like phones and tablets, you will NOT be able to complete all of your coursework on these devices so a laptop or desktop is required.

Internet Browsers

  • You should always use the most current version of updated internet browsers, such as Google Chrome or Firefox.

Reliable Internet Service
