"Ventura Speaks: A Centennial Celebration"

Ventura College/Liberal Arts and Public Humanities Project

October 29 2025

Join us for a celebration of meaning, value, and community at Ventura College!

The Ventura College Liberal Arts and Public Humanities Initiative invites you to our first public event on October 29 in Guthrie Hall. Together, we’ll explore the deep connections between history and identity, and honor the shared struggles and stories that have shaped our college and community over the past century.

This special gathering includes an Oral History Forum, Project Symposium, and Legacy Faculty Panel, culminating in a Centennial Celebration that honors both our roots and our ongoing journey.

Highlights include:

  • Recital by New Zealand composer Mark Menzies, whose work reflects the global reach of artistic expression.
  • Recognition of Division Centennial Alumna Honoree, Emeritus Faculty, and Community Leader Ola Washington, whose life embodies perseverance, purpose, and service.
  • Poetry reading and conversation with Ventura County Poet Laureate Emerita Luzmaria Espinosa, who gives voice to our collective identity through poetry and reflection.

Join us as we celebrate 100 years of learning, creativity, and the enduring human quest for understanding and connection.

Light refreshments will be served.
