Kim Hoffmans
Kim Hoffmans and family.

Name:  Kim Hoffmans

Primary role at the college: President

Years of Service:  I have worked in the VCCCD for over 26 years as a nursing faculty, dean, vice president of academic affairs, and as the president for the past 9 months.  Working in the community college system is a dream job for me.  I appreciate the opportunity to support the success of our students and employees through advancing education.

Family:  My family is small; comprised of my husband for 32 years, a son, and a daughter.  I like to think that my life-long support of education has rubbed off on my children.  My son (26-years old) has a master’s degree in biology and is about to complete his second year of medical school.  While applying to medical school, he taught anatomy in a community college for two years.  My daughter (24-years old) is truly a “chip off the old block” because she is a registered nurse like me.  For the past 2.5 years, she has worked on a cardiac unit at Methodist Hospital in Houston, Texas.  She has promised me that she will return for her master’s degree in nursing soon.  Someday, I believe she will teach nursing and exceed my abilities entirely.

Hobbies:  For hobbies, I like to snow ski, play (at) golf, and take walks.  I wish I had more time for all of these activities.

Favorite Food:  Mexican food is my favorite!  I could eat it for breakfast, lunch, and dinner every day.

Favorite Movie:  I am kind of a sci-fi nerd.  I really enjoy Star Wars!

Favorite Song:  This will probably not be a surprise to many of you but I love Country Music.  If you listen closely as I walk around campus, you may hear me singing a few tunes.

Something fun, interesting, and/or unique about you:  I was completely surprised by being selected for the “Faces in the Crowd” feature.  During an Administrative Council meeting, we placed all administrator names in a bowl and picked names at random for each month.  I must admit that I was a bit embarrassed that I was chosen.

One fun thing about me is that I have over 100 hours of time under water scuba diving.  My father and I used to take really exciting trips in the summer before I married to places like Belize, Honduras, Grand Cayman Islands, and Mexico.

Rachel Johnson
Rachel Johnson and husband.

Hi!  My name is Rachel Johnson and I am faculty for Child Development and Co-Chair of the Department.  I have just received Tenure this year but have worked for the district since 2014. I have been in the field of Early Education and Teaching for my entire adult life…I was the person who knew as a young child that I would be a teacher when I grew up.  I LOVE being the person who is helping others find their passion for Education. Something interesting about me is that I love to swing dance and my students learn that very quickly with me…I teach them how to dance in class. I have been dancing since 2001 where I met my husband in one of my first dance classes.  I love many kinds of music but give me a good Big Bad Voodoo Daddies or Lee Presson and the Nails song and you will see me ready to East or West Coast.  I keep my dance shoes in my car ready to go, just in case.  The photo is of my husband and I dancing in the 20’s on New Years Eve.  With my commute to school, I am an avid Audible listener and one of my favorite genres of literature is Steampunk, especially books with a strong female lead. I am also a tea snob and when asked how I take my tea…my response is…very seriously!  Give me a good book and a good cuppa tea and I will be as happy as can be.

Nan Duangpun
Nan Duangpun

สวัสดีค่ะ (Sawadee ka). My name is Nan Duangpun.  I have been with the District for almost 10 years. I am currently a Technical Data Specialist. This is my sixth year serving Ventura College. My husband and I are proud parents of a daughter who will be graduating High School and off to college this Fall!

When I am not at work, I enjoy gardening, collecting Snoopy memorabilia, and watching Korean dramas. I also spend time visiting my parents every year who live in Thailand. Traveling has always been my passion. I used to work as a flight attendant for one of the international carriers. I traveled to many different countries, explored cities, tasted local food, and experienced many different cultures.

My favorite food is braised black cod, a sophisticated Korean dish. My favorite movie is the Fugitive, and my favorite song to sing at Karaoke is What’s Up? by 4 Non Blondes.

Bradley Silvernail

Hello, my name is Bradley Silvernail. I have been taking classes at VC throughout high school but this is my first official year as a full time college student. I am an economics major. I have an older brother and older sister. My hobbies include playing video games and reading books. My favorite food is spaghetti. My favorite movie is Back to the Future II, and my favorite song is Don’t Stop Me Now. Something interesting about myself is that I have taken a class here at VC for nearly every semester while I was in high school.
