Jessica Janett Flores Esquibel, Student

Jessica Janett Flores Esquibel

Name: Jessica Janett Flores Esquibel

Role at VC: President, Associated Students

Major: AS Child Development with Transfer to a 4 year college

Years at VC: 4 1/2 years

Family Life: I am married with 2 children. The reason I decided to study child development was due to my children having a speech delay and motor delay. I was lucky that my children had a good pediatrician and recognized that they needed assistance so that they could reach the development milestones. After seeing them evolve with the help of a speech pathologist, I wanted to help others like my children got help.

Hobbies: Cooking, painting, drawing, coloring, knitting - pretty much all arts and crafts. I also enjoy playing games and watching TV with my children, helping others and meeting new people.

Favorite Food: I would say carne asada but I also enjoy a chicken wrap. I am always open to trying new things... well, let me rephrase that, ALMOST everything.  I refuse to eat menudo and it's funny because my parents love it!

Favorite Movie: I have more than one. I love all of the Star Trek movies, but I also have a favorite in the romantic section called Sense and Sensibility. For horror, I would say Train to Busan. Action and comedy would be Deadpool

Favorite Song: I would say High Hopes.  That song usually picks me up when I need energy.

Something fun, interesting, and/or unique about you: I love all animals and before moving into the USA, I had a ferret that I wish could have come with me, but sadly they are banned in CA. I also have another Degree from Mexico. Lets see if you can guess! In my profession I would say something like "Ok, now rinse and spit and I'll see you again for a crown fitting in a week". The reason why I didn't try to get that degree here in the US was due to my children, which is the best thing that ever happen to me.

Something fun, interesting, and/or unique about you: Something many people don't know about me, including my students, is that I danced with Ballet Folklorico Regional in Oxnard from the age of 6 to 21. Performing traditional dances from the various states of Mexico was a big part of my upbringing and my "sport" growing up. It is a lost culture.
