Family: I have the best family ever! A wonderful husband, we just celebrated our 45th wedding anniversary. I have 3 children and three of the most amazing Grandchildren ever! I am blessed to be part of a large family of 7 children and gatherings are full of lots of laughter and tons of fun!

Hobbies: I love to craft, although I haven’t had much time for it lately. Reading is a favorite and I just recently discovered Audible! One of my passions is party planning and we seem to do it often.

Favorite Food: At this moment it is Mediterranean Food but that changes, my all-time favorite snack is popcorn mixed with M&Ms, it is the best.

Favorite Movie: Blindside

Favorite Song: I Can Only Imagine, by Mercy Me.

Something fun, interesting, and/or unique about you: I am known to be the Rebel in my family and no one is surprised anymore by all my antics. I love to dye my hair purple because it freaks out all my siblings and my mom.

Rachel Johnson, Faculty, Child Development
Rachel Johnson Dancing with her Husband

Hi! My name is Rachel Johnson and I am faculty for Child Development and Co-Chair of the Department.  I have worked for the district since 2014. I have been in the field of Early Education and Teaching for my entire adult life…I was the person who knew as a young child that I would be a teacher when I grew up. I LOVE being the person who is now helping others find their passion for Education.

Something interesting about me is that I love to swing dance and my students learn that very quickly with me...I teach them how to dance in class. I have been dancing since 2001 where I met my husband in one of my first dance classes.  I love many kinds of music but give me a good Big Bad Voodoo Daddies or Lee Presson and the Nails song and you will see me ready to East or West Coast.  I keep my dance shoes in my car ready to go, just in case.  I am so excited that my first event I have bought tickets for is to see BBVD in September. The photo is of my husband and I dancing in the 20's on New Year’s Eve last year.

With my commute to school, I am an avid Audible listener and one of my favorite genres of literature is Steampunk, especially books with a strong female lead. I am also a tea snob and when asked how I take my tea…my response is…very seriously!  Give me a good book and a good cuppa tea and I will be as happy as can be.

Name: Tony Magana

Major: Electrical Engineering

Years at Ventura College: 2

Family Life: I was born and raised with my one brother and one sister in Oxnard. We have three cats and one dog. My sister will be graduating from UCLA this year with a degree in Spanish. My brother will be transferring from VC to CalArts next fall. At home, we like to spend time working on our garden and hanging out with the pets.

Hobbies: I enjoy spending time playing sports like tennis and basketball. I like hanging out with my friends and making short movies with them. We’ve made two movies so far and have a third movie/reboot of the series on the way.

Favorite Food: I like a lot of different kinds of foods. It’s a close race but I think I give the crown to Thai food, specifically some good pad thai, though I like curries as well.

Favorite Movie: My favorite movie is probably The Amazing Spider-Man. I love this movie because it’s so fun to watch and Spider-Man is my favorite character.

Favorite Song: My favorite song changes quite often but as of right now, I would probably say that my favorite song is “Safe” by All Time Low. I vibe with it.

Something fun, interesting, and/or unique about you: I love baking. If I had to choose another career path besides engineering, I would probably choose to open up a bakery. Some of the things I’ve made at home are cinnamon rolls and cheesecake. Next up I want to try making doughnuts.
