Ventura College Astronomy and the M.E.S.A. Program invite the campus community to a two-day astronomy event featuring a special lecture by Dr. Cameron Hummels (Caltech) as part of the American Astronomical Society’s Harlow Shapley Visiting Lectures Program, a nationally recognized initiative that brings leading astronomers to colleges across the country.
 
Day 1 features Dr. Hummels’ public lecture, “The Science of Black Holes,” where he will discuss how astronomers observe and study these extraordinary cosmic objects and what they reveal about the universe.

Join us for an interactive afternoon featuring solar observing followed by a student-focused lecture on galaxy formation, cosmology, and careers in STEM.
 
Day 2 continues the program with additional astronomy activities and is held in conjunction with the Ventura College Science Division Centennial Celebration, highlighting “A Century Under the Stars” and celebrating 100 years of science education at Ventura College.
