CELEBRATION! 100 Years of Music

The Ventura College Symphony Orchestra will present a diverse program in celebration of our of Centennial. Under the direction of Ashley Walters the repertoire includes works by VC's Composition Faculty including Yalil Guerra, Ollie Powers, and Andrew Tholl.

Works include: Tumaini (which means hope) which was composed by former VC Department Chair and Schwab Director Robert Lawson; Danzón No. 2 by Arturo Márquez (VC Orchestra gave the west coast premiere), as well as George Gershwin's Rhapsody in Blue (which celebrated its centennial last year) with VC faculty Felix Eisenhauer as soloist. The program will include a new work being written for the VC Symphony Orchestra by New Zealand composer Mark Menzies.

The concert and the premiere will mark the end of a week long residency where Menzies will be working with Ventura College students in a series of classes, masterclasses, and workshops.
