1. Do I need to make an appointment?
Back to TopYes, you need to schedule an appointment. However, if you are very ill and need to be seen, we will try to accommodate you.
2. How long do I have to wait for an appointment?
Back to TopIt depends on what you're coming in for, but usually we can fit you in either that day or within a few days.
3. Do I need to pay at the time of my visit?
Back to TopWe prefer payment at the time of visit, but we can also bill your student account at the Student Business Office.
4. Can I get medications, if needed?
Back to TopWe do offer many commonly used medications at a significant discount, as well as free samples. In addition, our clinicians can write you a prescription.
5. What is the fee to see a doctor or nurse practitioner?
Back to TopThere is no fee for the exam or consultation, but there will be a fee for any lab work, supplies, medications, or injections.
6. What services do you provide?
Back to TopWe are a full-service clinic with physicians and nurse practitioners. They can perform physical exams, illness visits, and injury evaluations, from diagnosis to treatment. We also perform some lab tests, give immunizations, and dispense medications.
7. If I have insurance, will it cover the services?
Back to TopNo, we don't bill your insurance for the visits, services, or medications, but if you have any lab work performed, we can send a copy of your insurance card to the lab and they will bill your insurance.
8. Can I see a counselor or therapist?
Back to TopYes, we provide six psychotherapy sessions per semester at no cost to the student.
9. Do you have dental services?
Back to TopNo, but we can give you information on low-cost student insurance or the name of a dentist who gives discounts to students. In addition, Oxnard College provides low cost dental cleaning and exams (805) 986-5823.
10. Do you offer low-cost student insurance?
Back to TopNo, the health fee covers all services at the Student Health and Psychological Services. However, we can provide you with a brochure on low-cost student illness/accident insurance.
11. Do you have vision/eye services?
Back to TopWe can perform limited vision screening (prescriptions for glasses are not given) and treat eye infections. But beyond that, we can only refer you to an optometrist who gives discounts to students.
12. What kind of birth control or gynecological services do you offer?
Back to TopWe offer Pap Smear exams, birth control options, the morning after pill, and pregnancy tests for a low fee. Condoms are always available for free.
13. Do you do Sexually Transmitted Infection (STI) or Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV)
testing?
Back to TopYes. We collect specimens for Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV) and Sexually Transmitted Infections (STIs) and send them to the lab for a reduced fee.
14. Are my visits and records kept confidential?
Yes, your medical and counseling visits and records remain strictly confidential.
