Descriptive title: The Nursing Process Applied to the Patient with Health Care Deviations I

COURSE STUDENT LEARNING OUTCOMES________________________________________________

At completion of this course of study, the student will be able to:

1.             Utilize the nursing process and Orem’s S-CDTN frameworks to provide patient –centered care to patients and

                families with developmental, universal, and health deviation self-care requisites of water, food, elimination,

                solitude and social interaction.

            2.             Describe the impact of Orem's basic conditioning factors in providing patient care.

3.             Incorporate developmental self-care requisites as they apply to perinatal, pediatric, adult and geriatric

                patient & their families.

            4.             Accesses evidence based findings that maybe applicable to clinical practice.

5.             Examine pathological changes and develop therapeutic interventions for diverse perinatal, pediatric, adult

                and geriatric patients with acute and chronic medical-surgical conditions.

            6.             Perform intermediate nursing skills with technical competence.

            7.             Select therapeutic communication techniques to facilitate patient, family and staff interactions.

            8.             Demonstrate standardized practices that support safety and quality.

9.             Formulate a plan of care utilizing the nursing process to apply Orem's S-CDTN to provide care to the

                perinatal, pediatric, adult and geriatric patient.

10.            Implement an individualized teaching plan for patient and families in acute care setting.

11.            Select appropriate community resources in planning patient care

12.            Incorporate health promotion concepts that enhance self-care agency of nurse, patient and family

13.            Document accurately the nursing care, patient responses to nursing interventions and medical regimens

14.            Interact as a team member in a collegial manner.

15.            Practice safe nursing practice within the ethical-legal & regulatory frameworks of nursing and standards

                of professional practice.

            16.           Utilize technology and information management tools to support safe processes of care.
