Back to TopCalWORKs stands for California Work Opportunity and Responsibility for Kids Act. It is a law that provides temporary cash assistance and other services to low-income families with minor children.
2. How does someone find out if he or she qualifies for CalWORKs?
Back to TopThere are several Intakes and Eligibility Offices located throughout Ventura County. Call the CalWORKs office at (805) 289-6003 for the phone number of the office nearest your home.
3. Can CalWORKs help with college costs?
Back to TopCalWORKs may be able to help eligible students with the cost of childcare, books, and transportation, if college attendance is part of a participant's CalWORKs Plan. The CalWORKs Plan is an employment and education plan that the CalWORKs participant works out with his/her Employment Specialist (sometimes called a case worker).

This one-unit class may help you figure out your career goals. Second, talk with the CalWORKs Counselor at Ventura College for some help and ideas. Just call (805) 289-6003 for an appointment.

Back to TopThat's OK. There are a lot of people at Ventura College to help you. Free, personal counseling is available. As a Ventura College student, you will also have access to the Student Health and Psychological Services for excellent health-related services.
7. How do I enroll at Ventura College?
Back to TopCalWORKs students are eligible for early enrollment each semester. Either you or your Employment Specialist can call (805) 289-6003 to make an appointment for registration right at the CalWORKs office. Someone will sit down with you and answer all your questions.
