Dr. Rocío D. Hernández

Faculty Counselor/Coordinator 

Dr. Rocío D. Hernández is a first-generation, Chicana/Latina, scholar-practitioner who currently serves as a Counseling Faculty member at Ventura College and oversees the CalWORKs program. Being originally from Ventura County, born and raised, she is invested in her community and the students she serves. Dr. Hernández is a proud daughter of immigrants, her parents were farmworkers in Oxnard, California where, from an early age, she observed her family experience injustice. Her advocacy and social justice are rooted in these earlier experiences. Her parents are her motivation and the reason for her continued success. She has approximately 17 years of experience in higher education with service in different leadership capacities. She holds a B.A. in Chicana/o Studies and Spanish from the University of California, Santa Barbara, an M.S. in Counseling with an Option in College Counseling and Student Services from California State University, Northridge, and an Ed.D. in Educational Leadership with an Option in Higher Education Administration from the University of Southern California..

Jackie Gonzalez Macias

Student Services Assistant 

Jackie joined the Ventura College CalWORKs office in March of 2023 as the Student Services Assistant. She graduated from CSU Channel Islands in 2020 with her B.A. in Psychology and is currently working on her master’s in counseling in higher education at California Lutheran University. Being a first-generation student herself, Jackie understands how difficult it can be to navigate the educational system and how crucial it is to have a support system on campus. During her free time, Jackie enjoys spending time with loved ones, watching a good Netflix show, and visiting new places.
