9:30-11:45:  Department Meetings

Meet to:

  1. discuss current campus initiatives, or
  2. have the DE Technicians demonstrate a Canvas tool that is department specific, or
  3. discuss the implementation of OER resources for your department, or
  4. discuss your department’s technology training needs, or
  5. discuss curriculum and/or SLOs.

11:45-12:45 Lunch in ASC-120

1:00 – 2:15 Introduction to Screencasting: Location: LRC Training Studio – LRC 136

This interactive session will give an overview of Screencast-O-Matic, a free and easy to use screencasting tool. Participants will also create a short screen capture for a common task such as a tutorial, thematic lecture, or welcome video.

2:30 – 3:45 Seven Secrets of Canvas:  Location: LRC Training Studio – LRC 136

Canvas has a ton of features that you may not have tried yet. Today's session will reveal some very powerful tools that help you communicate with your students, jazz up your pages, grade efficiently, and provide digital student group project workspaces. This session is for online, hybrid, and on campus instructors.

9:00 – 9:45  RAVE Panic Button Smartphone App 

Grant Jones will discuss the impending rollout of the RAVE App for Smartphones.

This smartphone app is going to be available campus-wide in the coming months. Summoning emergency assistance and providing immediate notification to your colleagues of an incident is simple with the use of the RAVE app. Please join us for this informative session and receive details on the rollout.

 

9:45 – 10:45   BICT Reporting

Mary Jones will provide an informational session on how to file a BICT Report and what happens once the process is in motion. There will be time for Q & A.

 

10:45 – 11:45  Active Shooter Training

Join Mary Jones and Chief Joel Justice for Active Shooter Training.    

 

12:00 – 1:00  Lunch Served – Working Lunch in Guthrie Hall

 

12:15 – 12:45  College Activity with prizes  

 

12:45 – 3:15  Guided Pathways

Lesley Bonds, the lead for the advisory board that launched the California Guided Pathways Project and Director of Student Success and Equity at Bakersfield College, will provide instruction on Guided Pathways. Staff, faculty and administrators are encouraged to attend to learn about the fundamental elements of the Guided Pathways System (GPS).  Hear from a practitioner with experience on an operational implementation team, and identify short-term goals in the operation of an integrated framework at Ventura College.

Following is the list of topics Lesley will cover:

What are guided pathways?  What are some “on-the-ground” examples of basic guided pathways work underway at Bakersfield College?

  • Clarify the Path: Meta-Majors and the Program Pathways Mapper
  • Enter the Path: Matriculation, Registration, and Summer Bridge
  • Stay on the Path: Completion Coaching Communities (+ Affinity Groups to address Equity)
  • Ensure Learning: Co-Curricular “Earn & Learn” program

How has Bakersfield College broadly engaged faculty, staff, administrators, and students in guided pathways implementation?

  • BC’s professional development strategy
  • Book panels + student panels
  • Student Focus Groups
