Ventura College is fully accredited by the Accrediting Commission for Community and Junior Colleges (ACCJC), Western Association of Schools and Colleges (WASC), 10 Commercial Boulevard, Suite 204, Novato, CA 94949, (415) 506-0234, an institutional accrediting body recognized by the Council for Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA) and the U.S. Department of Education. Additional information about accreditation, including the filing of complaints against member institutions, can be found at www.accjc.org.

The primary purpose of the ACCJC-accredited institution is to foster student learning and student achievement. Accreditation is an ongoing review process designed to promote academic quality and to ensure that the college is fulfilling its institutional mission through assessment. Colleges evaluate their performance relative to standards established by the ACCJC. The process is intended to encourage self-reflection and improvement through ongoing, integrated planning and evaluation.

Accreditation History at Ventura College:

ACCJC's peer review process includes a self-evaluation report and a campus visit by a team of ACCJC evaluators to verify the accuracy of the report and recommend ways to improve. ACCJC most recently reaffirmed its accreditation of Ventura College in February 2017. The decision to continue affirmation of accreditation was based on Ventura College's 2016 Institutional Self Evaluation Report and a visit from a twelve-member accreditation team to the college on September 26-29, 2016.

In addition to finding that Ventura College satisfies all the Standards, Eligibility Requirements, Commission Policies, and USDE regulations; the accreditation team in their report, commented on a number of innovative and effective practices and programs by pronouncing several commendations:

Commendation 1: Ventura College “demonstrates significant dialog, transparency, and authentic self-reflection.”

Commendation 2: Ventura College supports “innovative technology including hardware and software, website expansion, data dashboard, and training in distance education.”

Commendation 3: Ventura College maintains “attractive grounds and facilities in a conducive educational learning environment despite the age of some facilities and continuing effect of the drought.”

Commendation 4: Ventura College’s “expanded inclusion of
classified staff through defining the “9+1” within their governance structure.
