Program Purpose: Students who complete the Certified Nurse Assistant (CNA) course will develop the necessary knowledge and skills essential to the function of certified nurse assistants in the direct care of clients in a variety of settings. Students will be able to demonstrate safe and competent care within the scope of their practice, utilizing the characteristics of professional and ethical behavior, good communication, and basic critical thinking skills. Upon successful completion of both the written and practical examinations, students will be eligible to take the certification exam from the California Department of Public Health. Certified nurse assistants may find employment opportunities in acute, long term care, and home health agencies. A Certified Nurse Assistant certificate is a required prerequisite for entrance into the Associate Degree Nursing Program.

  5. Describe appropriate steps in client admission, transfer and discharge.
  6. Formulate a plan to prevent complications in the bed rest client.
