Individualized Academic Counseling

The VC CalWORKs office conducts academic counseling for county-referred CalWORKs students. Along with completing the CalWORKs intake process and Individual Training Plan (ITP), the CalWORKs Counselor/Coordinator will assist students with developing an educational plan, providing information on degree programs, completing graduation applications, and any other academic-related needs.

Priority Registration

As a VC CalWORKs student, you are eligible to register for classes before the general open registration date. Agency verification of your status is required by our office.

Free Printing & Testing Supplies

As a VC CalWORKs student, you can visit the VC CalWORKs office for free printing services (20-page limit per day) and testing supplies (while supplies last).

Liaison with the County

We are happy to communicate with County staff about any needs that may arise.

CalWORKs Work Study*

CalWORKs work study is available for eligible CalWORKs students. To be eligible students must go through the financial aid application process. Students must be enrolled in a minimum of 6 degree applicable units per semester, maintain a 2.00 minimum GPA each semester and be up to date with their academic counseling appointments in the CalWORKs program. Work study funds do not count against student's TANF benefits.

*Note to Staff: Our office does not have nor provide a list of eligible work study students. Students must follow the financial aid process. If a student is in the CalWORKs program and has interest in working in your department, this does not automatically grant them work study. Please have students follow the financial aid process and schedule an appointment with their academic counselor in CalWORKs.
