The Laurel Project Concert
Presented as part of The Laurel Project (Faculty & Guest Artist Concert Series), internationally recognized guitarist Rovshan Mamedkuliev will perform an intimate program of guitar music. The Azerbaijani-born, guitarist began guitar lessons at the age of 11 in Russia. His solo career has taken him around the world to cities including Brasilia, Paris, Rome, Madrid, Amsterdam, Berlin, Istanbul, Minsk, Seoul, Beijing, Moscow, Bangkok, and Los-Angeles. He has given solo concerts at Carnegie Hall and Amsterdam's Concertgebouw and after winning Guitar Foundation of America’s International Concert Artist Competition, he gave a 51-concert solo tour throughout the United States, Canada, Mexico and Brazil. He has been a soloist with ensembles and orchestras around the world and has had the honor of premiered many new works for classical guitar. He has been awarded top honors in many international competitions, including the "Hommage à Leo Brouwer" Competition in France; the Heitor Villa-Lobos Competition in Spain; the A. Frauchi Competition in Moscow; the Francisco Tárrega Competition in Spain; and the Michele Pittaluga Competition in Italy. His published arrangements for guitar include "Masters of Russian Composition: Alexander Borodin and Anatoly Lyadov” (2014), "Fikret Amirov. 6 Miniatures”(2015). His recordings include “Con Anima” (2011), “Semi-Awake, Semi-Dream”(Contrastes Records, 2015) and a guitar recital for the prestigious Naxos label’s Laureate Series (2012).
