A LEGACY MADE - Ventura College Donor Irene Henry

Here's How One Donor Made Her Smart Planned Gift to Ventura College

Ventura College donor Irene Henry helped establish a scholarship for Latina students, and another for returning veterans, through the Julius Gius Foundation at her Ventura West Rotary Club. Now Irene has arranged to leave a legacy gift of $50,000 in life insurance through her family trust to endow a scholarship to benefit a Latina student with a strong academic record.

Because education has always been important to Irene, and her children directly benefited from the Ventura College Promise, giving back to Ventura College was important to her.

“My grandparents and parents never got past the eighth grade. My mother was adamant that life would be better for her two girls and two boys by virtue of a formal education. She encouraged us to pursue our
educational goals,” said Irene, who attended Prairie State Community College before receiving advanced degrees.

“My mother created a vision for my future. She told me that I could become the first female president of the U.S. I became a mother, a college/law school graduate, a State Farm agent, and current president of the Ventura West Rotary Club.”

State Farm generously supports education nationally, she said, adding that her giving priorities fit well with the insurance company’s.

“Arranging this gift was easy. I just made the change on my State Farm life policy and contacted my trust attorney to make it happen. I encourage others to do the same thing,” said Irene.
