VENTURA COLLEGE STUDENTS PRESENT
ONE-ACT PLAY FESTIVAL
VENTURA: Ventura College will present three one-act plays directed, produced and acted by student thespians at the Ventura College Theatre on the weekends of September 22, 23, and 24, and September 30, 31, and October 1. Friday and Saturday performances will be at 8:00 p.m. and Sunday matinees at 3:00 p.m. Admission to the final dress rehearsal held Thursday, September 21 at 8:00 p.m. is free and open to the public. Tickets are $5.00 general admission, and $3.00 for students, staff, and seniors.
The featured works are: Enigma Variations, by David Ives, directed by Vesna Hocevar, explores a variety of states of being and evokes the question: Are we ever really alone? Dancing With A Devil, by Brooke Berman, a short, yet extremely powerful piece directed by Brooke Gash, asks the audience to consider how and why a woman’s life is irrevocably changed by a single act. The Actor’s Nightmare, by Christopher Durang, directed by Julia Wittlin, finds an ordinary man trapped in every actor’s worst dream – on stage and expected to perform a variety of scripts with no recollection of ever attending a rehearsal. The Case of the Irate Witness joins our One-Act Festival to the City of Ventura’s concurrent celebration of the work of author Erle Stanley Gardner. This dramatic adaptation of a Gardner short story by Howard Leader shows defense attorney Perry Mason, his secretary Della Street, and private investigator Paul Drake at their best, once again solving a puzzle to reveal the innocence of their defendant.
All four short plays will be presented as one production, using both the Ventura College Mainstage and Circus Theatres. Together the plays form an evening of entertaining comedy and thought-provoking drama.
The Student One-Act Play Festival showcases the directing, acting, theatre production and design talent of Ventura College Theatre Arts students: Christina Alanis (Ventura), Eric Anderson (Ojai), Ashley Brizuela (Ventura), Jeff Cimmarusti (Ventura), Megan Craig ((Ventura), Kamille Cruz (Port Hueneme), Ryan James Culbertson (Camarillo), Michael Flores (Ventura), Connie Garcia (Port Hueneme), Brooke Gash (Oxnard), Adrienne Gomez (Santa Paula), Clarissa Guillen (Santa Paula), Vesna Hocevar (Ventura), Darian Hunt (Oxnard), Jeff Johnston (Oak View), Jocelyn Jurado (Oxnard), Steven Krevenas (Oxnard), Sara Langelier (Oxnard), Erica Larson (Oxnard), Howard Leader (Oxnard), Sarah Manheim (Ventura), Aaron Manuyag (Oxnard), T.J.
