| On behalf of the Ventura County Community College District and Ventura College, I would like to express our condolences to the family of Cadet Gregory Chastang. We are very sorry for their loss. This is the first time anything of this nature has occurred at the Ventura County Police and Sheriff’s Reserve Officer Academy, which has provided support officer training for the county and surrounding locales for almost thirty years. Reserve Officers are utilized in nearly all Police and Sheriff's agencies to supplement law enforcement manpower. Like regular officers, reserve officers are professionally trained and duly sworn law enforcement personnel. These men and women serve a vital function in keeping the residents of Ventura County safe. Our thoughts are with the family at this difficult time.
