Tickets range in price from $14 to $20: $14 for Students, $17 for Seniors, VC Staff and Faculty, $20 for General. One of Broadway's greatest farces - light, fast-paced, witty, irreverent and one of the funniest musicals ever written, “Forum” takes comedy back to its roots, combining situations from time-tested, 2000 year old comedies of Roman playwright Plautus with the infectious energy of classic vaudeville. The result is a non-stop laugh-fest in which a crafty slave, Pseudolus, played by Spanky Reynoso of Ventura, struggles to win the hand of Philia, the beautiful but slow-witted courtesan, played by Christine Capsuto of Ventura, for his young master Hero, Robert Beneteau of Ventura, in exchange for his freedom.
With its unforgettable zany characters; a hysterical, perfectly constructed book by Larry Gelbart and Burt Shevelove; and witty Stephen Sondheim songs, “A Funny Thing Happened on The Way to the Forum” allows a brilliant ensemble of comedic actors to shine. Other cast members include Eric Sheeler of Camarillo, cast as Senex; Linda Foster of Oxnard playing Domina; Jeff Wallach of Camarillo as Hysterium; Bob Decker of Oxnard as Erronius; John Gaston of Thousand Oaks as Miles Gloriosus, Basil Augustine of Santa Paula as Lycus; Shana McBride of Oxnard as Tintinabula; Andrea Sanchez of Oxnard as Panacea; Eliza Kinrose of Ventura as Geminae #1; Shannon Sullivan of Oxnard as Geminae #2; Abby Collins of Ventura as Vibrata; Stephanie Martin of Ventura as Gymnasia; Kevin Downey of Ventura as First Protean; Masio Winston of Oxnard as Second Protean; and Joey Sponseller of Ventura as Third Protean.
The show
“Forum” is directed by Mel Swope.
