VENTURA COLLEGE STUDENTS
PRESENT “Rumors” VC Theatre Department presents Rumors by Neil Simon February 23, 24, 25, and March 2, 3, and 4 at the Ventura College Mainstage Theatre. Friday and Saturday performances are at 8pm; Sunday matinees are at 3pm. Tickets are $7.00 general admission and $5.00 for students, staff, and seniors. Tickets are available at the door prior to each performance only. There are no advance ticket sales.
With his usual flair, Neil Simon provides a clever and entertaining drama with wonderfully witty characters. Charley Brock is Deputy Mayor of New York City. The Gormans, Ganz’s, Cusacks, and Coopers are four couples invited to Charley and Myra Brock’s house to celebrate the Brocks’ tenth wedding anniversary.
But, of course, things are not that simple. The first to arrive, Ken and Chris Gorman discover that Charley is upstairs, has shot himself through the ear lobe, and is bleeding on the white carpet. Myra is nowhere to be found.
As Ken and Chris try to figure out what happened - and invent a cover story to avoid a scandal - Claire and Lenny Ganz arrive flustered by a fender bender they don’t want Charley and Myra to know about. Already the truth is elusive.
When Ernie and Cookie Cusack arrive nursing Cookie’s bad back, and Glenn and Cassie Cooper show up barely speaking to each other (and Glenn is running for State Senate), the charade intensifies, the ridiculousness multiplies, the police arrive, and the real truth goes out the window – or does it?
The production of Rumors features Ventura College theatre students Benjamin Bradshaw (Oxnard), Christopher Fielder (Ventura), Sarah Langelier, (Oxnard) Erica Larson (Ventura), TJ Mora (Oxnard) , Dan Saad (Ventura), Brittany Saturnino (Oxnard), Vincenza Spagnuolo (Oxnard), Allison Williams (Ventura), and Travis Winterstein (Oxnard).
A thoroughly enjoyable farce – complete with off-the-wall circumstances, broad physical comedy, mistaken identities, and doors opening and closing. Rumors is a dynamic and energetic romp through the ridiculous that will surely provide the audience members with an enjoyable evening or afternoon of theatre!
