NEW LATE START SPRING CLASSES
High School students can enroll for free
VENTURA: Ventura College has added two new classes for the Spring semester, although the semester started in January. Called “late-start” courses because they start after the semester begins or “short term” classes because they do not take the full 18 weeks to complete; one of the new classes is transferable to the UC and CSU: Journalism V01, Mass Communication, a three unit course, which will meet on Tuesday and Thursday nights beginning March 13 through May 10, from 7 pm – 9:50 pm. The other new class is a Math V01, Elementary Algebra, a five unit course, which runs from March 12 to May 9, meeting Monday – Thursday from 12:30 pm – 2:50 pm. Late start and short term courses are designed to assist students who need classes that do not take the full 18 weeks, such as high school students, including seniors who might need a few extra credits or a specific class in order to complete their graduation requirements.
Ventura College is still offering more than 80 classes, ranging from 1 unit to 5 units, and starting each week from March 5 through April 16. Late start and short term class listings are available online at www.venturacollege.edu or by contacting the counseling office at 805-654-6448.
Other courses available include Child Development, training in the Microsoft programs Powerpoint, Excel, Word and Access, Web design classes, and introductory courses in Philosophy, Sociology, and Western Civilization. One often challenging graduation requirement, American Government, is offered beginning March 12, and completing two months later, just in time for high school graduations. High school students who are California residents pay no enrollment fees at any California Community College.
