VENTURA COUNTY COMMUNITY COLLEGE DISTRICT SEEKING CANDIDATE TO SERVE AS APPOINTED MEMBER OF BOARD OF TRUSTEES
Ventura County Community College District is seeking applications from qualifying candidates to serve as an appointed member of the Board of Trustees until the next regularly scheduled election for governing Board members, which is November 2012. The Board is responsible for the performance of Ventura College, Oxnard College, and Moorpark College, which serve approximately 35,000 students District-wide and provide vital educational programs and services to communities throughout Ventura County.
The Board is searching for candidates who have the ability and time to fulfill the responsibilities of being a member of the Board, which include:
--Participate fully in the work of the Board, which includes participating in all Board meetings and committee activities, studying and discussing policy issues, and engaging in Trustee professional development.
--Be knowledgeable about the communities served by the college district and be willing to act on behalf and for the benefit of its citizens.
--Be committed to the mission of the District and its colleges; understand and effectively respond to educational, social, and economic challenges within the District.
--Engage in balancing the needs of diverse interest groups; develop policies and take actions that serve public interest.
--Contribute to effective Board functioning and performance; operate cohesively and effectively as a unified body.
Persons applying or nominated for the vacant Trustee position must be at least 18 years old; must be a resident of Area 4 (East Las Posas Valley, Moorpark, Simi Valley, and Santa Susana); must be a registered voter; and must not be disqualified from holding civil office by the Constitution or any law of the State of California.
The Board of Trustees meets in the evening on the second Tuesday of each month at the District Administrative Center in Ventura. The deadline to request application materials or submit a possible candidate name is Wednesday, November 17, by 5:00 p.m. Completed applications are due by 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday, November 24, 2010. The Board will interview candidates in a public meeting and take action to make the provisional appointment at its December 14, 2010 Board Meeting. |
