| Ventura College Art Galleries Presents “Skin Deep: Artists Examine the Nude” January 19 through February 10, 2012, 10 a.m.-4 p.m. in Gallery 2 and New Media Gallery (NMG Building). The Opening Reception will be held January 19, 2012, from 7-9 p.m. The purpose of this exhibition is to explore artists’ intentions, their observation of the body and how this observation has changed to reflect the idea of the body and “the nude” over time. Beginning with the Early Modern Period, of the Renaissance and continuing into the Post-Modern Period, the exhibition examines identity through works of art as a form of cultural and social expression. Includes works by artists: Leonard Baskin, Isabel Bishop, Annibale Carracci, Mary Cassatt, Albrecht Dürer, Mary Frank, William Hendricks, Bob Moskowitz, John Nava, Pablo Picasso, Mel Ramos, Rembrandt Van Rijn, John Sloan, Raphael Soyer, James McNeill Whistler, and many more. |
