FOURTH ANNUAL HENRY SCHWAB VIOLIN AND VIOLA COMPETITION
The Fourth Annual Henry Schwab Violin and Viola Competition will once again present Ventura County’s best and brightest talented young artists performing violin and viola concertos with the Ventura College Symphony at 8:00 p.m. on Saturday, June 18, 2011, at the Community Presbyterian Church, 1555 Poli Street, in Ventura. Music Director, Robert Lawson, will be conducting seven young artists performing one movement from a concerto performed in an earlier February 2011 competition when the artists competed for an opportunity to present his or her concerto with the full Ventura College Symphony on June 18.
The public is invited to attend this exhilarating performance. Competition finalists ranging from 8-17 years old will perform works from the Baroque era to the 20th century as follows:
Edaan Byle -- Kabalevsky’s Violin Concerto
Alec Cheng -- Wieniawski’s Concerto No. 2 Op. 22
Daniel Chien -- Saint-Saens Concerto No. 3 in B minor
Samuel Chien -- Mozart’s Violin Concerto No. 3 in G minor
Elizabeth Estrada -- Stamitz’s Viola Concerto in D major
Joanne Ma -- Rieding’s Concerto in B minor
Brain Ma -- Vivaldi’s Concerto in G major
The competition is made possible by a generous gift from the Schwab Family Charitable Fund. Four contestants will receive varying monetary awards, and the first place winner will return next season to perform the complete concerto with the Ventura College Symphony. Tickets can be purchased on line at www.vcsymphony.com or at the event door on the evening of the performance. General Admission: $15; Students and Seniors: $5. |
