VENTURA COLLEGE AMONG TOP
IN THE NATION FOR DEGREES GRANTED
TO HISPANIC STUDENTS
VENTURA: Hispanic Outlook Magazine has selected Ventura College as one of the Top 50 Community Colleges in the Nation for granting associate’s degrees to Hispanic American students and as a 2006 Publisher’s Pick. All three Ventura County Community Colleges were selected as Publisher’s Picks, but only Ventura College was identified as one of the Hispanic Outlook Top 50, according to the list published November 20, 2006.
Ventura College President Robin Calote, Ed.D. said “we are very proud to be identified as a Hispanic Serving Institution by the U.S. Department of Education. This selection by Hispanic Outlook Magazine recognizes the success our College is having in serving those who have traditionally been limited in their access to higher education and the path to the American Dream paved by scholarship.”
Ventura College has ranked in the Top 50 Community and Junior Colleges for Hispanic Outlook magazine for the colleges awarding the most Associate’s degrees to Hispanics consistently for at least the past decade. In addition, the College has recently had a large enough Hispanic enrollment to rank in the Top 50 largest community colleges for Hispanic enrollment, and ranked 18th in the nation for Hispanic Serving Institutions (HIS) awarding Associate Degrees to Hispanic students. Hispanic Serving Institutions are recognized as such by the US Department of Education, and have more than 25% of their enrollment identified as Hispanic.
