NURSING DEGREES
VENTURA: Fifty-three new nurses will receive their pins at the Ventura College 2006 Nursing Pinning on December 20 at the Ventura High School auditorium. The traditional ceremony will include the personal pinning of each graduate by the nurse or nursing instructor who mentored or inspired the student to enter the profession.
Students will also be recognized for their significant academic achievements and for their community service. Three graduates were named as “Graduates with Distinction” for their contributions to the School of Nursing, to the community or their employers, and to their fellow students: Ritchie Suarez, Denise Miller, and Gina Ortiz. Red Cross Awards for contributing a minimum of 20 hours of volunteer work in the community, often at flu shot clinics and other health facilities, will go to 17 students, each of whom contributed more than 20 hours: Don Albers, Lisa Bogue-Gotwals, Evelyn Cota, Frances de Guzman, Adelina Garcia, Tiffany Hays, Jolene Knapp, Cindy Knudsen, Irene Mangacu, Dora Mata, Denise Miller, Mary Mullen, Gina Ortiz, Rosylynn Pecatoste, Courtney Samojen, Debbie Van Pelt, and Linda Whisenhunt. Eight will receive Peer Tutor Awards for their work assisting other students with the challenging academic nursing curriculum: Jessica Angel, Kristi Rogers, Dan Murphy, Irene Mangacu, Lisa Bogue-Gotwals, Kara James, Linda Whisenhunt, and Marianne Moise-Begg.
The School of Nursing and Allied Health prepares students to care for individuals in hospitals, homes, and other health care settings. Graduates practice the art and science of nursing by combining knowledge from many different disciplines to promote the restoration and maintenance of health in their clients. The School administers the Associate Degree Nursing, Certified Nurse Assistant, Home Health Aide, and Continuing Education for Registered Nurses programs.
