OFFERS NEW CLASSES FOR SPRING ‘07 SEMESTER
VENTURA: Ventura College is offering a wide range of new classes for Spring 2007. Most of the courses are transferable to colleges within the UC and CSU systems. Among the new classes offered this spring semester, which begins January 8, are:
BUS V2BUS V23/V24 – BASIC & ADVANCED PHLEBOTOMY - 2 units/- 2 units Instructor: Krystin Shin
Each of these 5-week classes meets at the East Campus in Santa Paula. The courses meet the California Department of Health Sciences minimum requirements for basic phlebotomy training. These courses lead to eligibility to sit for the state certification exam as Phlebotomy Technician I. Students will learn infection control and safety, universal precautions, basic anatomy and physiology, medical terminology, patient and specimen identification, selecting and preparing skin puncture site, blood collection equipment, post-puncture care, and medical waste and sharps. California requires phlebotomy technicians to have a high school diploma or equivalent. Field trips may be required. *Course will be offered pending state approval. Training in communication, comprehension, pronunciation, elementary principles of grammar, reading of prose, and simple composition; progress in oral-aural skills emphasized throughout the course and supplemented by outside use of the language laboratory; cultural material is given to stimulate interest in and develop an understanding and appreciation of the French-speaking peoples and countries. Field trips may be required. Transfer Credit: CSU and UC
SPAN V70 – SPANISH FOR MEDICAL PERSONNEL - 3 units
This course is designed to meet the needs of those employed in the medical field. Students will learn essential vocabulary and phrases in Spanish that will allow them to communicate with patients in a variety of situations from gathering information to responding to medical emergencies. Appropriate cultural practices will also be discussed. Field trips may be required. Transfer Credit: CSU
RE V1I – REAL ESTATE APPRAISAL - 3 units
RE V1I – REAL ESTATE APPRAISAL - 3 units Instructor: Barbara Preheim
This real estate appraisal course is confined largely to residential property, along with an introduction to investment property valuation. Additionally, the course covers methods and techniques for determining value for loan and insurance purposes. Students will prepare a standard appraisal report as used in industry on a selected residential property. Transfer credit: CSU.

Create dynamic web sites using Macromedia DreamweaverŽ : This course is designed to introduce the basics of Web site development using graphics, text, animation and current computer software. Students will preview how these essentials are organized in order to plan and construct Web sites, adding links, navigation, frames, and tables. Students will create a Web site, learn the delivery process, and learn how to access and work with a Web server. Fees will be required. Field trips may be required. Fiction lovers, this is the class for you! We will read a selection of the best English and American, plus some International, short fiction of the last 150 years, plus two novels. The course will discuss the analysis and interpretation of representative short stories and novels. The emphasis is on structure, style, character, setting, and tone. Students will suggest titles and vote to choose a large portion of the curriculum. Film, reader's theatre, and guest author speakers will supplement and enliven our class discussions. Sponsored by Ventura College in association with the Cultural Affairs Division of the City of San Buenaventura and the Ventura Unified School District, this exciting, transformative workshop weekend for artists, teachers and others provides attendees with ways to strengthen their creative voice and personal point of view in the arts; to deepen their understanding of the arts and your own creative process; to apply meaningful strategies to use multiple arts disciplines in your classroom or studio program and to link their teaching to the California State Visual & Performing Arts Content Standards, K-12. This Friday and Saturday “hands-on” workshop includes visual arts, dance, performance art, and other art forms. Participants will explore their own creativity and ideas connected the Content Standards to classroom subjects such as language arts or history/social studies as well as to a variety of arts disciplines. Participants will also become familiar with the VAPA Content Standard “strands” and discuss approaches that apply to the arts and to student learning in multiple content areas. Students may register for full semester spring classes through January 19 online and in person. Additional late start and short term courses are available that begin in January, February and March.
