VENTURA COLLEGE PRESENTS SPEAKER ON
“Emerging Oil Supply Bottlenecks:
Domestic and International Challenges for the US Policy”
VENTURA: The International Studies Program at Ventura College, in cooperation with the Ventura Center of the University of California at Santa Barbara (UCSB), will present Dr. Fereidun Fesharaki, speaking on “Emerging Oil Supply Bottlenecks: Domestic and International Challenges for the US Policy” in the Ventura College Theatre, on Wednesday, September 26 from 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. There is no charge for admission to this program.
The geopolitical issues affecting the global oil market create volatility and uncertainty worldwide. The issues of global warming and concerns over the environment have recently come to the front burner in the United States, although these have been old issues in Western Europe. All these developments have masked the debate over potential supply problems ahead. A school of thought believes in global peak. They believe we will reach peak production and then see a rapid decline. Others believe the supply can last for many more decades. How do we interpret all these issues? What is the impact of resource nationalism displayed in Latin America, Russia, and the Middle East? Are we really facing a supply problem and rising prices? What are the imperatives of the US policy—domestically and internationally? Dr. Fesharaki will appraise all these perspectives and share with the audience his insights as to the future directions of the oil markets and options ahead of us.
