VENTURA COLLEGE STUDENTS TO PRESENT
ONE-ACT PLAY FESTIVAL
VENTURA: Ventura College Theatre presents the Spring 2007 Student One-Act Play Festival. The Festival of four student directed one-act plays, includes one play written by VC student Chien-ei Yu. The productions are Crossing the Bar by Don Nigro, directed by Jocelyn Jurado, Date With A Stranger by Cherie Vogelstein, directed by Julia Wittlin, The Ugly Duckling by A.A. Milne, directed by Vincenza Spagnuolo, and Family Portrait, written by Chien-ei Yu, directed by Benjamin Bradshaw. Tickets are $5.00 general admission, and $3.00 for students, staff, and seniors, and are available at the theatre prior to each performance.
The One-Act Play Festival, which presents all four plays together in one bill, will be presented in the Ventura College Mainstage and Circus Theatres on Friday and Saturday, April 20 and 21 at 8pm, Sunday, April 22 at 3pm, Friday and Saturday, April 27 and 28 at 8pm, and Sunday, April 29 at 3pm. The final dress rehearsal, Thursday evening April 19 at 8:00 pm, is free and open to the public.
In Crossing the Bar, a comedy, two women sit in a funeral parlor with the corpse of a recently deceased loved one, saying things like "Doesn't he look like himself," when the corpse sits up and asks for Betty. Who is this Betty, they wonder? God certainly works in mysterious ways.
Date With A Stranger chronicles the chance encounter between two young New Yorkers, who proceed to carry out a long, dynamic relationship in the span of fifteen minutes, all within the confines of the very coffee shop where they meet.
In The Ugly Duckling, which has nothing whatever to do with the Hans Christian Anderson story, arrangements have been made for Prince Simon to marry Princess Camilla. The King and Queen are nervous because-- let's face it-- Camilla is plain! It is decided that a beautiful maid will impersonate Camilla until the wedding. The Prince hears of Camilla's beauty and, considering himself rather plain, has his extremely handsome man Carlo impersonate him. Simon and Camilla meet by chance and fall in love. Each is beautiful to the other and they live happily ever after.
Family Portrait, by Ventura College student Chien-ei Yu, will debut with this series of performances.
