Ventura College is pleased to announce that the 2008 Men’s Cross Country Team have been selected by the Community College League of California Commission on Athletics (CCLC COA) as the recipient of an Athletics Scholar Team Award. The teams will be honored at the “Celebration of Student Athletes Awards” Banquet at the Commission on Athletics Convention on April 2, 2009.
According to the CCLC Commissioner of Athletics, Dr. Joanne A. Fortunato, “This is a special award as emphasizes academic achievement of all of the members of one specific team. This is an honor that should be the objective of all of our sports teams, and one for which Ventura College should be extremely proud.”
Ventura College President Robin Calote said, "These students represent the best of what we do at Ventura College. They have successful combined academic achievement with an extracurricular activity they love, made lifetime friends and enhanced the reputation of Ventura College. We are so pleased to help recognize their achievements."
Ventura College Men’s Cross Country Coach Nancy Fredrickson said, “I am extremely proud of this team. We had three sophomores and six freshmen, and finished third in the Western States Conference. Mark Martinez was named First Team All Conference, Gabe Enriquez and Eddie Enriquez were named to the Second Team All Conference, and Daniel Berg and Jaime Castaneda were Honorable Mention. In addition to exemplary teamwork, they maintained a 3.38 grade point average for the semester – while carrying full academic loads.”
