CAPS-TV Will Present a Unique Programming Event
“A Special Reading of the Declaration of Independence”
to air on July 4th, 2007
Community Access Partners of San Buenaventura or CAPS-TV has invited special friends from the City of Ventura and Ventura County to help CAPS-TV commemorate our nation’s birthday this year by participating in a special reading of the Declaration of Independence.
Each participant was recorded reading a portion of the Declaration. Together these segments provide a complete oratory presentation of the historical document signed by 56 members of the Second Continental Congress on July 4th, 1776.
Todd Thayer, CAPS Executive Director says, “As a community access station we are purveyors of free speech and no other document, besides the U.S. Constitution, represents the fundamental ideals that the United States of America was founded upon.”
Many influential individuals in our community will deliver the words from our forefathers in a taped show scheduled to air on Channels 6 & 15 in the City of Ventura. The telecast is hosted by Gary Cunningham, a professor of history from Ventura College who will also give a brief but interesting and informative history of the document.
Distinguished readers include: Ventura Mayor Carl Morehouse, Actress Bonnie Franklin, Ventura County Supervisors Peter Foy and Linda Parks, Ventura City Manager Rick Cole, CEO of the American Red Cross of Ventura County Chris Johnson, Director of the Ventura County Museum Tim Schiffer, President of Ventura College Robin Calote, the Director of the Ojai Music Festival Jeff Haydon, President of the Ventura Chamber of Commerce Zoe Taylor and many more special guests from the education, arts, business, government and non-profit communities, as well as individuals of all ages who are proud citizens of Ventura County.
Rich Burlingham, CAPS Marketing and Development Manager says “we believe that this will be a valuable endeavor by reminding viewers about the significance of the Declaration of Independence and the risk that those who authored and signed this important document made for the cause of liberty. It’s also a dramatic way to educate our youth about its importance to both U.S. and world history.”
A Special Reading of the Declaration of Independence will air throughout the day July 4th, 2007. Replays will occur through July 7th. For scheduling information within the City of Ventura please go to www.capstv.org
