VENTURA COLLEGE ATHLETIC TEAM HONORED
VENTURA: Ventura College is pleased to announce that the 2005-2006 Men’s Swim/Dive Team, has been selected by the Community College League of California Commission on Athletics (CCLC COA) as the recipient of an Athletics Scholar Team Awards. This is the seventh year in a row that the Swim/Dive Team has been so honored, believed to be an unprecedented achievement with the CCLC COA. The team will be honored at the “Celebration of Student Athletes Awards” Banquet at the Commission on Athletics Convention on April 5, 2007.
According to the Commissioner of Athletics, Dr. Joanne A. Fortunato, ”This is a special award as emphasizes academic achievement of all of the members of one specific team. This is an honor that should be the objective of all of our sports teams, and one for which Ventura College should be extremely proud.”
Ventura College Swim Coach Larry Baratte said, “This 2006 team was a very special group. The freshman on the team completed the semester with a combined 3.52 GPA with four of the five named to the Ventura College Dean's List, which requires maintaining a 3.5 grade point average while carrying 12 units. The sophomores were a part of two State Scholar-Team award winning teams (2005 and 2006), as well as members of the 2005 State Swimming Champions and the 2006 State Swimming runners-up. They are now succeeding at various universities throughout the state, including two who will be competing in the NCAA Division II Championships later this month in Buffalo, NY representing the University of California at San Diego.”
