The Ventura College Dance Department Presents
“Dancin’ on the Edge”
VENTURA: Presented by the Fall 2007 Dance Performance class, 'Dancin' On The Edge' is a variety dance concert comprised of student and guest artist choreography and performance, directed by CathyJean Butter. The concert will be held at the Ventura College Theatre on Loma Vista Road on the north side of the campus. Parking is available in the West lot next to the Theatre. The show will be held Friday and Saturday, December 7th and 8th at 8:00 p.m., and Sunday, December 9 at 3:00 p.m. Tickets are $10 for general admission, $8 for students, seniors, and VC staff, and are available at the Theatre before the beginning of the show.
This semester's concert includes choreography taught to the students by recent EDGE graduates Devin Fulton (Ventura's own), Kandis Mak and Marlon Pelayo. EDGE is an acclaimed LA based dance program specifically meant to train professional commercial dancers. These professional dancers placed their own choreography onto our VC students - pushing them to new limits and dance styles. The guests will also be performing their own collaborative work for the December concert.
UCSB Dance Company will also be returning as guests artists in the December concert. UCSB Dance Company, directed by Delila Moseley, is a ten-member student dance company in residence in the Division of Dance, UCSB. The company performs throughout the year in on campus, in the Santa Barbara and neighboring communities on tour in California, serving as a training vehicle for senior dance majors. The students consistently evaluate working in the company as one of the most challenging and valuable experiences in their career at UCSB. The company is directed in the manner of a professional dance company, where dancers are explected to learn the repertory of different choreographers guickly and competently.
Also showcased will be a West Coast Swing number choreographed by Louise Bretz, director of Connexions Dance Studio in Ventura. Louis is a national, award-winning dancer and instructor and has been teaching in Ventura County for 12 years.
