At this fun and informative event, Ventura College engineering, math and science students together with engineering professionals and FHS MESA Club students will guide Fillmore Middle School and High School students on hands-on projects to help them learn more about the value of science, engineering, math and the power of a college education. There will prizes awarded for various projects and door prizes as well.
A special guest, Dr. Martha González, M.D., M.P.H., Director of the Women’s Comprehensive Osteoporosis Center, will speak to students and parents about her distinguished career in medicine and what it takes to overcome obstacles and reach your goals.
There will also be information tables from several Ventura College departments and clubs such as Matriculation, Tutoring, Biotechnology, and Pre-Med. Local engineering and manufacturing companies, as well as the City of Fillmore Public Works Department, will have information tables as well.
For the parents, there will be workshops (presented in English and Spanish by Ventura College staff) on choosing a college and financial aid options.
This exciting free event is sponsored by the Society of Hispanic Professional Engineers (SHPE) National and Ventura County Professional Chapters, SHPE Ventura College Student Chapter, the Ventura College MESA (Mathematics, Engineering, and Science Advancement) Program and the Ventura College East Campus.
