Ventura College Music Department Presents
VC Alum and Julliard Student: 10 year old Llewellyn Werner
VENTURA: A Bosendorfer Grand Piano purchased for the College with donations from the Werner family, Keyboard Concepts, and the VC Foundation will make its debut on October 6. Llewellyn Kingman Sanchez Werner, the now 10-year old Ventura College alum who began his studies this fall at the Julliard School of Music, began his studies at VC at age 5. The 9’2” piano is one of only a couple available for performing musicians on the California south coast.
The performance will include Chopin’s Etude in C Minor, Op. 10, No. 12; Beethoven’s Sonata in D Minor, Op. 31, No. 2; Piano Concerto in C, Op. 15; Choral Fantasy for Piano, Choir and Orchestra, Op. 80; and Brahms’ Liebslieder Waltzes for Choir, Piano Duo and Orchestra, Op. 52.
Llewellyn will perform in the Helen Yunker Auditorium of the Ventura College Theatre with a 30 piece Orchestra and with the Ventura College Master Chorale, under the direction of Professor Burns Taft.
Llewellyn is a delightful boy whose passion for great music is as profound as is his commitment to being a positive force in the world. He believes that music is universal, crossing boundaries of language, culture, time and politics: music can inspire, swell passions, make the spirit soar and lead one to feel that great things are within grasp and that every human life is as sublime as it is frail. Since the age of five, Llewellyn has attended Ventura College, accumulating more than 135 college credits (and a 4.0 grade point average) in such varied fare as French, Spanish, English Composition, Music History and Literature, Music Theory, Modal-Tonal Counterpoint, Orchestration, Intermediate Algebra and History of Western Civilization. In the five years he attended Ventura College, he also performed numerous charity concerts, participated in the college Honor Society, and performed with the College Theatre and the Much Ado About Shakespeare Company in several plays.
VIP tickets are $30, reserved tickets are $20. For tickets, call 654-0995 or the Ventura College Foundation at 654-6461. |
