| The initial graduation of the Associate Degree in Nursing Regional Collaborative was held at College of the Canyons in November. Sixty-five students were graduated. Of those, fourteen are Ventura College nursing students who will receive their pins at the December 20 Pinning at the Ventura Beach Marriott Hotel ceremony.
The nursing program participates in the ADN Regional Collaborative program with College of the Canyons, Glendale College, Los Angeles Valley College and Los Angeles Pierce College. With this program, 36 nursing students are admitted annually to Ventura College to have teleconferenced theory and traditional clinical experiences using a shared first year curriculum. At the end of the first year, students are transitioned into the traditional Ventura College nursing program.
The A.D.N. Regional Collaborative brings students and faculty from the five schools together—the students are taught through live teleconferencing into classrooms located in participating hospitals. They all use a common curriculum. The program began in January 2005, and has admitted 100 students in each of the past two years. This year, because of additional funding, it will admit 160 new nursing students.
The program is accredited by the California Board of Registered Nursing and the California Community College Chancellor’s Office.
