Descriptive Title:                 The Nursing Process Applied to the Patient with Health Deviations III

COURSE STUDENT LEARNING OUTCOMES__________________________________________________

At the completion of this course of study NS 40 students will be able to:

1.     Integrate the nursing process and Orem’s S-CDTN frameworks to provide patient centered care for groups of patients

        with complex health deviation self-care requisites of air, activity and rest.

      2.     Analyze the effect of basic conditioning factors in providing care to patients, communities and groups.

      3.     Analyze the appropriateness of evidence based practice findings for utilization in nursing practice.

      4.     Assess and maximize the patient’s participation in and responsibility for self-care or dependent care agency.

5.     Analyze the pathophysiological findings and develop therapeutic interventions and community resources including

        complex pharmacological intervention for pediatric, adult and geriatric patients with complex health deviations of

        air and water and activity and rest.

      6.     Discuss principles of consensus building and conflict resolution.

      7.     Engage in root cause analysis to analyze safety/quality issues and design system improvements.

8.     Independently formulate an individualized interdisciplinary care plan that considers patient education, DSCR,

        therapeutic interventions, pathophysiology and community resources.

9.     Evaluate the effectiveness of patient education and teaching of appropriate health care team members.

10.   Collaborate with multidisciplinary team to promote community resources for patient care referrals.

11.    Value health promotion concepts to enhance self-care agency of the nurse, patient, family and community.

12.    Independently initiate appropriate complex interventions in providing patient care.

13.    Coordinate the implementation of an individualized plan of care for patients and significant others.

14.    Demonstrate proficiency and independence in application of the nursing process and Orem’s S-CDTN to

        manage care for patients in a variety of settings.

15.    Demonstrate accountability and responsibility for a multiple and/or complex comprehensive patient assignment.

      16.    Formulate decisions that reflect knowledge of health care economics, technology and reimbursement issues

      17.    Document revision of nursing care plan in coordination with co-assigned registered nurse.

18.    Independently modify/adapt the patient’s nursing care plan based on evaluation of progress toward meeting

        identified outcomes.

19.    Demonstrate collegial and collaborative skills as a member of the health care team to monitor outcomes of care

         and improve quality of care and safety of the patient.

      20.    Evaluate own legal-ethical decision-making related to professional practice.

21.    Create a safe personal practice and a safe health care environment utilizing ethical-legal and regulatory frameworks

        of nursing and standards of professional practice.

      22.    Demonstrate leadership abilities.

      23.    Utilize technology and information management tools to manage save processes of care.

24.    Function as a contributing member of the health care team including provider of care, manager of care and member

        within the discipline.
