New Student Activities

All new students are encouraged to participate in the matriculation process which involves orientation, assessment, and counseling. Become a Ventura College student by completing all five steps below:

Step 1 Complete an admissions application in person, by mail, or on-line. To apply on-line, visit our website, www.venturacollege.edu, and go to Student Central for the on-line application form.

Step 2 Complete either the on-line new student orientation, or attend an on-campus orientation facilitated by a college counselor. Please refer to the schedule below for times and dates when orientations will be offered.

Step 3 Take the college assessment test for English and math. Please see the assessment schedule below for times, dates and locations that assessment is being conducted.

Step 4 Attend an academic counseling session to develop your educational plan. Please refer to the schedule below for times and dates when group advisements will be offered.

Students who complete the first four steps by the deadline (as listed on the calendar in the current Schedule of Classes), will be eligible for priority registration. If you choose, you may also receive 0.5 unit of transferable credit for a nominal fee by completing all three steps.

Step 5 Register for classes. You may register on-line using webSTAR, or in person. If you choose to register on-line, using webSTAR, you will be charged a $3.00 fee per semester. Using webSTAR will allow you to browse through all open sessions, sort classes by time and instructor, add your name to a wait list for closed sessions, and to use many other features.

EAC, EOPS, and CalWORKS students may register for the Summer and/or Fall 2008 terms beginning on April 7, 2008. Continuing students may begin registering on April 14, 2008. New students who have completed matriculation activities (assessment, orientation, and counseling) by April 26, 2008, and returning students, may begin registration on April 28, 2008. All other students (except high school and K-8 students) may begin registering for Summer and/or Fall 2008 classes on May 5, 2008.  High school students (9th - 12th grades) may begin registering in person for Summer and/or Fall 2008 classes on May 6, 2008.  K-8 students may begin registering for Summer classes only on May 19, 2008.

All-In-One Day

All-in-one-day-sessions are offered for students who prefer to complete all three matriculation activities (assessment, orientation, and counseling) in one day. Participants will complete assessment from 8:30 to 11:30 in the morning. They will take a short break, and return at 12:00 noon for orientation and counseling sessions which are conducted by Ventura College counselors.

To facilitate the matriculation process, you may apply for admission prior to attending one of the All-In-One-Day sessions. You can apply online, by mail or by bringing in either the downloadable application, or the Application form that is available in the printed class schedule or at the Office of Admissions and Records. Bring completed applications to the Office of Admissions and Records in Building A.

Please arrive at the activities site no later than 8:15 a.m. You will need your social security number or your VC student ID number. You may bring a sack lunch. Please allow time to park and arrive at the appropriate site.

Assessment Schedule

NO APPOINTMENT IS NECESSARY. Please allow about ninety (90) minutes for reading/English assessments and one (1) hour and fifteen (15) minutes for the math assessment. If you attend on a weekday while the college is in session, you must purchase a parking permit for a dollar ($1) either at the machine near the flag pole, near the Administration Office (facing Telegraph Road ), or from one of the two yellow box dispensers located in Parking Lot E. This permit will allow you to park in any student lot for the entire day (no parking permit required on Saturdays). Please allow time to park and arrive at the appropriate site.
