UNIVERSAL BORROWING WITHIN THE VENTURA COUNTY COMMUNITY COLLEGE DISTRICT (VCCCD)

Through Universal Borrowing, current Ventura College students, faculty, and staff can check out books from Moorpark College and Oxnard College. Community members are not allowed to use Universal Borrowing. Emeritus and retired employees may speak to library staff about Universal Borrowing privileges.
Moorpark College and Oxnard College students, faculty, and staff are invited to check out books from Ventura College as well. Items will be checked out using the institutional 900# or identification number of their home institution.
The only items that can be checked out are Circulating Books. This includes books in Main Stacks, Oversized books, and Children’s books. The following items cannot be checked out:

  • Textbooks
  • Reference books
  • McNaughton Leisure Reading Collection
  • DVDs
  • CDs
  • Articles
  • Periodicals
  • Reserve items
  • Plate items
  • Ebooks
  • Archives/Rare books
  • Kits
  • Computers

Users can use Online Catalog to place requests for books to be sent to their home institutions, or visit another institution to pick up the desired item.
Books can be checked out for 3 weeks with 1 renewal. Home institution can recall the book for their use at any time. Patrons can check out a total of 5 books.
Lost and replacement charges will apply when appropriate.
Items can be returned to the loaning institution or to your home institution, whichever is closer.


INTERLIBRARY LOAN OUTSIDE OF THE VENTURA COUNTY COMMUNITY COLLEGE DISTRICT (VCCCD)

Ventura College Library accepts Interlibrary Loan requests from current Ventura College students, faculty, and staff to retrieve books from other institutions. Community members are not allowed to use Interlibrary Loan through Ventura College, and are encouraged to inquire about Interlibrary Loan at their local public library. Emeritus and retired employees may speak to library staff about Interlibrary Loan request privileges.
Patrons are to fill out an Interlibrary Loan request online. Please make sure that all the information is filled out correctly, or your request may be delayed.
It may take up to 30 days for your book to arrive at the library; please plan accordingly.
Loaning periods are determined by the lending institution, and vary by library. There is no fee for borrowing books; however, there are fees for lost and damaged items.
Patrons may not request more than 3 items per month, and may make only 1 Interlibrary Loan request per month. Only those books unavailable through Universal Borrowing (see above) will be acquired through Interlibrary Loan.
Loan requests will be processed during Fall and Spring semesters only.


LENDING BOOKS TO NON-VENTURA COLLEGE BORROWERS

Ventura College is a member of OCLC, and loans books to patrons at other libraries. Ventura College will loan out only Circulating Books. The following items cannot be borrowed:

  • Textbooks
  • Reference books
  • McNaughton Leisure Reading Collection
  • DVDs
  • CDs
  • Articles (at this time)
  • Periodicals
  • Reserve items
  • Plate items
  • Ebooks
  • Archives/Rare books
  • Kits
  • Computers

You may borrow books for 4 weeks from the time the item is checked out at Ventura College. Books may be renewed once. There is no fee for borrowing books; however, there are fees for lost and damaged items.
Loan requests will be processed during Fall and Spring semesters only.
