Tools for Caregiving
This new class will provide students with the skills necessary to care for an elderly person at residential care centers, as well as in a home setting. Instruction will include the physical and emotional aspects of age and decline; how to manage difficult behaviors; understanding issues of hygiene and personal care; basic CPR/first aid; recognizing elder abuse; and developing communication skills with the patient or loved one. This class is appropriate for individuals working or seeking employment in a residential care center, as well as individuals providing home care to patients or family members.
There is no fee to students for this class.
This class is funded by a grant through the California Community Colleges Chancellor's Office, Governor's 15% Workforce Investment Act Funds for Allied Health Programs.
