According to the 2010-11 Occupational Outlook Handbook:
Employment of receptionists and information clerks is expected to increase by 15 percent from 2008 to 2018, which is faster than the average for all occupations. Employment growth will result from growth in industries such as offices of physicians and in other health practitioners, legal services, personal care services, construction, and management and technical consulting.

BUS V94 Professional Reception Skills
4 unitsHours: 4 lecture weekly
Students will learn to identify attributes of an effective receptionist and develop listening and communication skills, filing, telephone and basic computer skills. Time management and conflict resolution will also be covered. Additionally, students will create a resume and practice interviewing techniques.
Student Learning Outcomes
Given the variables necessary to secure entry level employment in the clerical field, students will demonstrate proficiency in the following areas: word processing, records management, interpersonal skills, time management, proofreading/spelling, telephone communication, resume preparation and interviewing skills, all assessed through instructor evaluation of classroom and written assignments. (A Proficiency Award is awarded for completion of this 4-unit course.)
