I graduated from Ventura College with my A.A. degree in 1991, and then went on to the University of California at Santa Barbara (UCSB) to earn my B.A. degree in 1993. I became a substitute teacher after that to try teaching. I spent two years teaching kindergarten through 12^th grade and enjoyed it very much. Then, I got a night job teaching ESL at Oxnard Adult Education, and I fell in love with the job. That was in 1995, and I have been teaching English as another language since then. I went on to get my M.A degree in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL) at Azusa University in 2001. After I earned my M.A. I began teaching at the community college level. I taught at College of the Canyons, Los Angeles Mission College, Glendale Community College, and Ventura College. In 2004 I was offered a full-time position at Ventura College, and have been here ever since. I have taught every level, and most skills and have found all of the students to be wonderful. I cannot imagine a better job.

I completed my studies at UCLA and UCSB. I have a Masters in Education; Credential as a Reading/Language Arts Specialist; Life-Time Credential in K-14; and I am a Certified Teacher of English for Students of Other Languages. I have over 25 years of experience teaching Kindergarten through University levels and designed and taught work-place programs for students of other languages.

I have been teaching ESL since 1984. During that time, I have taught all levels from literacy to TOEFL preparation. Since I enjoy travel, I taught English as a Foreign Language in Taiwan and China. Besides being a language teacher, I am a language student. I studied Spanish while living with host families in Mexico and Spain. The whole world of second language teaching and learning is fascinating and enjoyable. For me, ESL teaching is the best job in the world.

Nancy Zelman

I have taught ESL for over 25 years in North Africa, New York and in California. After receiving a Masters in TESOL from Columbia University, I decided to pursue a law degree. My Juris Doctorate is from The University of the Pacific Law School. After practicing law for a short time, I realized that there was no better job than being an ESL teacher, so I returned to teaching.
