Ventura College Symphony Orchestra Presents "Spanish Dances"
The Ventura College Symphony Orchestra, with Music Director Robert E. Lawson, will perform “Elegance and Flair, The Spanish Traditions,” an all Spanish musical program featuring compositions from some of the greatest composers that have inspired audiences throughout the 20th century, on Saturday, May 12, 2012, 8 p.m., at the Oxnard College Performing Arts Building, 4000 South Rose Avenue, Oxnard, CA. Featured Classical Guitarist is Carlos Gonzales performing Rodrigo’s most famous work, Concierto de Aranjuez, for Guitar and Orchestra. Carlos Gonzales, a musical jewel, is Professor of Music at both Ventura College and Oxnard College. Teaching since 1981, he is the founder of Ventura County Classical Guitar Society, which has grown from a small group of students to hundreds of guitar aficionados, aspiring musicians, and professional performers. Also featuring Ventura College Percussion Ensemble performing Chavez -- Sinfonia India, Symphony No. 2, composed with traditional Indian percussion; Marquez -- Danzon No. 2; Lecuona – Malaguena and Gitanerias from Andalucia Suite; and a special performance of the Ventura College Guitar Ensemble. Tickets sold at the door: $5 students/seniors; $15 general seating.
